Hey there y'all!

As you can see the blog is now up and running, and I really hope you'll use it. The more we keep in touch and share with each other what's going on, the more we'll all learn over the next six months.
So let me know how it's goin out there! How are those fire bags coming?

Well.... here we are. We have been back in our "lives" for about a week and a half and Undrea & I have gotten a slow start on incorporating these skills into our daily lives. We loved the first weekend; it was such a great learning experience that brought our previous knowledge much further in a very short period of time. We know that we will only improve by practicing and honing our skills, but are seriously deficient in the time department! We know we need to attempt to carve out some time to do these skills, because they will help bring balance to our lives; the practice of the skills are meditations in and of themselves. Practicing will help us slow down... breathe. EASIER SAID THAN DONE! :)

We own and operate three businesses and also do consulting work to bring in extra income to funnel into our businesses... thus far, since our First Weekend, the majority of my "nature" time has been observing, as usual, from behind the steering wheel.

Here's the daily trip: I visit with a fawn I've been watching since she was stranded on a grass & bramble "island" between highway onramps when her Mama was hit by a car last fall. I wasn't sure she would make it through the winter alone, but she surprised us and did just fine. She looks healthy, shaggy, and taller. I am concerned about her welfare on that island, not only from exhaust fumes, lack of sufficient water, and poor diet, but also for lack of company and the danger of crossing the highway to get back to the forest. For now, the island is her home. I see several hawks, turkey vultures, and other birds on my way, and get to know their habitats and behavior as I go along. Just today I saw the first groundhog of this season, which made my heart glad. I also have been coming to a new office for my consulting work on and off for the past two weeks, and just today decided to park around back - what a great idea! There is a huge expanse of forest here and, circling above it, a mature bald eagle who I hope to come to understand well. Getting out of the car and taking a few moments with Eagle will be a good pause before heading into the office...

Now, as far as those skills are concerned...YIKES! Not only do we have a TON of homework to do so we need to get'er done, but we also understand that the whole purpose is to incorporate the skills into DAILY life, and not to cram it into a weekend here and there. We don't have time to watch TV, so we can't set basket-weaving time aside for that... we will have to make time for our skills.

We'll keep you posted!
Peace & Loveall,
Mae and Undrea

Well.... we've actually gotten a START.... Undrea & I both started our firebag weaving. Lara came over for dinner, brought her bag, & got us started one evening late last week. That was the first time we set aside some time, which was nice. Just the other night, Undrea and I actually sat in front of the television for about two hours and worked on our bags some more. That felt good. Making progress! Undrea's been travelling for our business which leaves me to run the operations while he's away, so any little time we can carve out together, and doing skills, is much needed and appreciated. I drop him off again tomorrow at the airport. He will be taking his firebag and extra jute with him, so hopefully he can continue to make progress while in transit...
We were supposed to go to my Mom's in NY for easter this Sunday, and we are not going to due to business responsibilities, so hopefully we will take out a little time this weekend to take a walk and gather up some plants and/or cordage materials.
That's the update! Happy trails.... Mae & Undrea
